Here’s where you can find cheap, non-stop, round trip flights to Hawaii

Hawaii is a true hot spot. This world-class destination is home to idyllic beaches, lush rainforests, roaring waterfalls and towering volcanoes. No wonder so many people visit the islands each year – about 8 million, to be precise.

My brother-in-law is one of them. Living in California, he’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from this Pacific Ocean paradise. But what about us folks closer to the East Coast? We also want to experience the beauty and culture of Hawaii. The place is so popular among Americans that we make up over half of Hawaii’s total visitors each year. Even my 8-year-old son wants to set foot on its sandy shores, as he made clear in his list of 2018 goals.

For a while, the cost (and time) of flying to Hawaii may have prompted you to look elsewhere for a tropical getaway. Not this year. Flights to this paradise are expected to be so cheap this year that you won’t bat an eye come flight time.

The bargain fares are the result of a fare war. Southwest and other airlines are offering new flights with lower price tags. In response, some major carriers are lowering fares to stay competitive. Travelers can benefit with spectacular savings on an island escape.

How low can they go? Flights to Hawaii from the mainland have been as low as $280 round-trip. But if you missed those prices, keep that suitcase packed. There are still cheap flights available.

Beginning this month, you can find nonstop round-trip flights to Honolulu for as little as $407. Flying nonstop between January and March from the East Coast will set you back just north of $600. If you’re flexible with travel days and can fly during the middle of the week (the days with the lowest demand), you may be able to find even cheaper prices.

If you live on the West Coast, starting in May, Sun County is launching a nonstop, seasonal service from Los Angeles to Honolulu starting at $299 one-way. This service will run through August 19, and flights will operate four times a week.

Here are a few of the projected prices for other major cities across the country:

Phoenix to Honolulu – middle-of-the-week flights start at $407, January 16 through February 14

New York to Maui – flights out of JFK start at $605, with dates from the middle of January through March

Newark to Honolulu – fares start at $607 through February, with more prices like this as United increases service to Hawaii

Baltimore to Honolulu – trips booked for January through early February on weekdays (excluding Fridays) come in at $590 round-trip

Don’t see yours on the list? Just check out fares on Google Flights, Skyscanner or Momondo. If you don’t find a price you like right away, just set an alert. With a little patience and flexibility, you’ll be soaking up the sun in no time.
